Indo-Israeli newly developed surface-to-air missile 'Barak-8' successfully test-fired

Russia already eyes on 6th-gen unmanned fighter jet

Russia is working on a new-generation fighter, according to former Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Gen. Pyotr Deinekin. "The development of the new-generation fighter began in 2013," the general said, adding that the new aircraft would be unmanned. 

German and Polish Navies sign a submarine cooperation agreement

Thales wins $107 mn contract to support British Army's Watchkeeper UAVs

Russia receives another batch of Mi-8ATMSh combat and transport helicopters

Russian Helicopters Group has delivered the first batch of Mil Mi-8AMTSh transport and attack rotorcraft to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the group’s press office said. Russian Helicopters Group is a subsidiary of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec.

Russia develops air-independent propulsion unit for diesel-electric submarines

Russia’s Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering developed an air-independent propulsion unit for diesel-electric submarines in 2015, according to the design bureau’s annual report published on the Corporate Information Disclosure Center’s website.

Two more dual-control Mi-28NE combat helicopters handed over to Algeria

Algeria took the delivery of two more Mil Mi-28NE 'Night Hunter' combat helicopters in late June, according to the local media outlets. "Algeria received two dual-control Mi-28NE combat helicopters from Russia in late June, 2016. The delivery was fulfilled within time limits specified by Moscow and Algiers," the MenaDefense local media said.

Thales wins $107 mn contract to support British Army's Watchkeeper UAVs

The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded Thales a $107 million contract to deliver Support to the British Army’s combat proven Watchkeeper Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Tidespring, The First Tide Class (MARS) Royal Fleet Auxiliary Tanker Started Sea Trials

A picture was released this week showing the future RFA Tidespring (A 136), the first of four new MARS (Military Afloat Reach and Sustainability) tankers in builder sea trials off South Korea with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). The tanker is expected in Falmouth, UK, later this year for military customisation. 

MQ-8B Fire Scout VTOL UAS deploys with new radar capability

The MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned helicopter recently deployed with the USS Coronado (LCS-4) to begin flight operations using its new maritime surveillance radar. The AN/ZPY-4(V)1 radar, built by Telephonics Corporation, will be used to improve the situational awareness of the Fire Scout operators and the ship’s crew in maritime and littoral environments. The AN/ZPY-4(V)1 will also improve Fire Scout’s target classification for maritime and overland targets.

On June 24th, the French Navy (Marine Nationale) chief of staff, Admiral Bernard Rogel, welcomed his US Navy counterpart, the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral John Richardson in Paris. This visit was an opportunity to highlight the excellent cooperation between the two navies who are conducting joint operations on every seas of the world with an unprecedented level of interoperability.

MBDA Italia signs 1 billion euros plus contract to supply missiles to the Qatar Emiri Navy

MBDA Italia has signed today a contract worth more than 1 billion euros to supply the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces (QENF) with missiles for their new naval vessels recently procured from Fincantieri. In this respect, MBDA will be supplying the QENF in due course with Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles as well as Aster 30 Block 1 and VL MICA air defence missiles.

Turkish Defense Company Otokar has received a new order from Turkey for the delivery of new Cobra 2 4x4 armoured vehicle personnel carrier. In December 2015, Otokar has announced a first contract of Cobra 2 for the Turkish Ministry of Defence.

Contract negotiations held with FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.S. in relation to the Anti-Tank Vehicle Project, which were initiated by the Defense Industry Executive Committee’s decision taken on March 9, 2016, have recently been concluded, and the project contract was officially signed on June 27, 2016, at a ceremony held in the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries.

Iraq receives new batch of Mi-28NE attack helicopters

Russia supplied Iraq with a new batch of Mi-28NE "Night Hunter" military helicopters, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Tuesday. "These helicopters will make a great contribution in support of ground forces in their operations aimed at targeting terrorist positions and destroying [their] armoured vehicle packed with explosives," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

New Guided Missile Destroyer Project for ROC Navy Emerges out of Taiwan

Pictures of a scale model and computer renderings of a new guided-missile destroyer project for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Navy (ROC Navy) emerged last week in the 中国军事中國軍事武器 (China Military Chinese Weapon) magazine. This new destroyer project is in line with Taiwan's new naval acquisition plan which was unveiled late last year. The new plan called for four new destroyers (among other vessels).

USAF showcased first HH-60G Pave Hawk Operational Loss Replacement helicopter

The US Air Force introduced the first of 21 fully built HH-60G Pave Hawk Operational Loss Replacement (OLR) helicopters June 28 at a ceremony in Huntsville, Alabama. The HH-60G is used to conduct combat search and rescue operations. The OLR program will restore the service’s HH-60G fleet to its authorized size, replacing aircraft lost in nearly 15 years of deployed combat operations since 9/11.

Russian armed forces will receive more Iskander-M SS-26 Stone tactical ballistic missile.

Russia’s Army has received another set of the Iskander-M (NATO reporting name: SS-26 Stone) tactical ballistic missile system, the press office of the Machine-Building Design Bureau told TASS. The Machine-Building Design Bureau, part of Russia’s Precision Systems Group, is the producer of the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system.

DRDO Developed Varunastra Heavy Weight Torpedo Joins Indian Navy

India's DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) formaly handed over to the Indian Navy in a ceremony attended by India's defense minister Manohar Parrikar. According to the DRDO, Varunastra is the first indigenous state-of -the-art heavy weight ship launched anti-submarine electric torpedo designed and developed by Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), a premier lab of DRDO. It is capable of targeting quiet and stealthy submarines, both in deep and littoral waters in intense countermeasure environment.

Serbia takes delivery of two Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopters

Russian Helicopters holding has delivered two Mi-17V-5 medium military-transport helicopters to Serbia, according to the company`s press department. "Both Mi-17V-5 rotor-wing aircraft for Serbia were produced by Kazan Helicopter Plant (Russian acronym: KVZ, a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters). Russia and Serbia signed the contract to supply two Mi-17V-5 helicopters to Belgrade in September 2015," Russian Helicopters` official spokeperson said.

Elbit Systems’ Seagull USV Successfully Completes Torpedo Launch Trials

Elbit Systems completed recently a trial test torpedo launch from its Seagull multi-mission, autonomous Unmanned Surface Vessel(USV) system. The trial, performed out of Israel's Haifa port,demonstrated the capability of Seagull to install and launch lightweight torpedoes, adding to the advanced capabilities of the USV, which is designed to carry out unmanned maritime missions, such as protection of critical sea areas and high-value assets against submarines and sea mine threats.

Belgian F-16s about to start raids against IS targets in Syria and Iraq

Six Belgian F-16 fighter jets have left the Kleine Brogel airbase in Belgium yesteday June 27th for a Jordanian airbase, where they will carry out raids against IS targets in Syria and Iraq, Belgian media reported. Previously Belgian jets had only been deployed in operations against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq. From now on they will also attack IS targets in Syria.

AMDR AN/SPY-6 Array Delivered to U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility

The U.S. Navy installed a new AN/SPY-6 radar at the Advanced Radar Development Evaluation Laboratory (ARDEL) at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) June 6. The delivery and installation of the AN/SPY-6 radar at ARDEL followed the successful completion of Near Field Range testing in Sudbury, Massachusetts in late May, and marks the beginning of the Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) program's next phase of execution that includes live test campaigns at PMRF -- involving air and surface targets as well as Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) flight tests.

RAF Tornado aircraft used Storm Shadow missiles against Daesh for the first time

Royal Air Force's Tornado fighter jets used Storm Shadow missiles against a very large concrete bunker in western Iraq, Typhoons destroyed a smaller bunker, and a Reaper struck targets in the north, the British Ministry of Defence announced yesterday June 27th.
