Russia and India signed an agreement to develop new air defence systems for Indian armed forces

Russia’s major defence company Almaz-Antei and India’s private enterprise Reliance Defence signed an agreement to develop, manufacture and maintain air defence systems and radars for the Indian armed forces, the Reliance Defence company’s press service reports.

Russia to Deliver 46 Ka-52K Katran Hokum-B Ship-Borne Helicopters to Egypt for Mistral LHDs

Russia has signed an agreement with Egypt for delivery of forty-six Kamov Ka-52K navalized attack helicopters, the Director General of the JSC Russian Helicopters holding company, Alexander Mikheyev, said on Wednesday. The Ka-52K Katran (Nato reporting name: Hokum-B) is the naval variant of the Ka-52 Alligator designed for the French-made Mistral LHDs which the Egyptian Navy recently acquired (and which were originally intended for the Russian Navy).

Pictures: FREMM Frigate Provence with French Navy and US Navy Aircraft Carriers in the Gulf

The French Navy (Marine Nationale) released pictures showing the brand new Aquitaine class FREMM Frigate Provence sailing alongside USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and the Charles de Gaulle in the Persian Gulf. Following a short port-of-call in Djibouti, the Provence frigate integrated the Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG) (Task Force 58) on December 23rd, and crossed the Ormuz strait to enter the Gulf region on December 26th.

Southern Military District of Russian army will receive 1,000 sets of Ratnik combat gear

Around 1,000 sets of new generation Ratnik combat gear have been supplied to the Southern Military District in 2015, Andrei Gurulyov, 58th Army Commander, has told TASS. The Ratnik is a project of Future Soldier system for the Russian army.

The DT-10PM is a two-sections tracked carrier vehicle designed and manufactured by the Russian Company Vityaz. The project of DT-10 was launched in 1982 to offer a new type of vehicle offering high cross-country capabilities and maneuverability in swamp and snow terrain.

The Admiralty Wharves Shipyard (JSC "Admiralty Shipyards"), part of Russia’s United Ship-Building Corporation (OSK), is planning to deliver seven submarines and an icebreaker to Russian and foreign customers by 2018, Shipyard CEO Alexander Buzakov told TASS on Wednesday. 

Ukraine to allocate $4 billion for defense budget next year including new air defense systems

The 2016 Ukrainian defense budget allocates the equivalent of just over USD 4 billion to the entire defence and security sector next year. Next year Ukrainian government plans to purchase advanced radar systems, surveillance drones and ground-to-air defence systems to strengthen security in the skies.

Indian Navy Successfully Test Fires LRSAM/Barak-8 Air & Missile Defense System from INS Kolkata

The Indian Navy achieved a significant milestone in enhancing its Anti Air Warfare capability with the maiden firing of its newly developed Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LR SAM). The firing was undertaken on 29 and 30th Dec 15 on the Western Seaboard by INS Kolkata, wherein the missile successesfully intercepted an Aerial Target at extended ranges.

DARPA & Northrop Grumman to Develop VTOL UAS for Small US Navy Ships

Small-deck ships such as destroyers and frigates could greatly increase their effectiveness if they had their own unmanned air systems (UASs) to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and other capabilities at long range around the clock. Current state-of-the-art UASs, however, lack the ability to take off and land from confined spaces in rough seas and achieve efficient long-duration flight. Tern, a joint program between DARPA and the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research (ONR), seeks to provide these and other previously unattainable capabilities. As part of Tern’s ongoing progress toward that goal, DARPA has awarded Phase 3 of Tern to a team led by the Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Poland will start the modernization of its Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks in 2018

The Polish Defense Ministry signed a contract to modernise 128 Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks used by the Polish army. Poland’s original set of 128 Leopard 2A4 tanks were bought and transferred in the mid-2000s. Poland also purchased a total of 105 Leopard 2A5.

USS Harry S. Truman & Charles de Gaulle Carrier Strike Groups Now in Combined Combat Ops

U.S. Navy strike aircraft from nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) flew their first missions in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the fight to destroy the ISIL terrorist organization, Dec. 29. Truman and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7 join French nuclear powered aircraft carrier FS Charles De Gaulle (R 91) in conducting combined combat operations in Iraq and Syria from the Arabian Gulf.

Rostec and HAL will form a JV to manufacture Ka-226T helicopters in India

Russia's Rostec will form a joint venture with the Indian company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for manufacturing Kamov Ka-226T military helicopters in India. During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Russia visit an agreement was signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of India on cooperation in the field of helicopter manufacturing. The document was signed in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Malaysia's second Airbus A400M military airlifter landed at Subang airbase

The 2nd Airbus A400m military airlifter ordered for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) landed today at Subang airbase, escorted by two MiG-29 fighter jets. The aircraft, numbered M-54-02, is the second on a batch of four A400M airlifters ordered in 2005.

Ukraine & Poland will cooperate to develop mortar carrier and howitzer based on T-84 Oplot tank

The State Company Ukroboronprom Corporation and a Polish company will cooperate to develop two self-propelled artillery systems mounted on Ukraine-made T-84 Oplot main batle tank chassis, Ukrinform reports Dec. 28. State Concern "Ukroboronprom" was created in 2010 for management of the Ukrainian enterprises of the military-industrial complex.

The Russian Navy has received the eighth Project 03160 patrol boat Raptor, Navy spokesman Captain 1st Rank Igor Dygalo said on Monday. The Project 03160 patrol boat Raptor is the last vessel in the series built by the Pella Shipyard in the Leningrad Region in northwest Russia, he added.

ROK Navy Opens New Naval Base for KDX-III Aegis Destroyers on Jeju Island

The Republic of Korea (ROK or South Korea) Navy unveiled a new naval base on the southern resort island of Jeju. Jeju island is strategically located in a sea passage connecting the East China Sea and the Sea of Japan (East Sea) in the northwest Pacific Ocean. The 7,600-ton KDX-III Aegis Destroyer Yulgok Yi arrived on December 22 to the "Jeju civil-military sea port base" (the official designation of the base) ahead of its official launch scheduled for January.

Russia's OSK Shipyard to Have Technological Capabilities to Build Aircraft Carriers from 2019

The United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK) will have the technological capabilities to build helicopter carriers and aircraft carriers starting from early 2019, OSK Director General Alexei Rakhmanov has told the Russia 24 TV broadcaster in an interview. "We will be prepared for helicopter carrier construction just like we are prepared for building aircraft carriers," he said.

Russian Navy Project 945A Sierra II Class Submarine Pskov Returns to Northern Fleet After Repairs

The Project 945A B-336 Sierra II class nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) Pskov armed with missiles and torpedoes has undergone repairs at the Nerpa Shipyard and returned to the Northern Fleet, the fleet’s press office said on Monday. The Nerpa Shipyard is a subsidiary of the Zvyozdochka Shipyard.

Iraq's counter-terrorism forces has liberated the city of Ramadi from ISIS

The Iraqi city of Ramadi has been "liberated" from Isis militants, according to a military spokesman. Iraq's counter-terrorism forces raised the Iraqi flag above the central government complex in the western city, a day after the army declared victory over Isis fighters there.

NATO plans to move E-3A Sentry AWACS aircraft from Germany to Turkey

NATO will temporarily relocate Boeing E-3A Sentry airborne early warning and control aircraft (AWACS) in Turkey as part of its air defense package to the country amid the Syrian crisis, media reported. The deployment of the military planes will be carried out by the German armed forces.

Russian Iskander-M launcher system to be equipped with a new secretive missile

Russia's defense industry recently announced the creation of a new missile. According to military expert Igor Korotchenko, the announcement was careful to conceal the new missile's specifications. Russia's new missile for the Iskander-M launcher, said to have been completed on Friday, has some secret characteristics, weapons expert Igor Korotchenko told Sputnik.

Russia would like to replace anti-aircraft systems ZSU-23-4 & Tungunska with new 57mm weapon

Russian Navy Future Frigate Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov Completed 1st Phase of Trials

China reportedly rolled out first LRIP version of the Chengdu J-20 fighter aircraft

According to pictures released on Chinese specialized websites, the first low rate initial production (LRIP) version of the Chengdu J-20 5th-gen fighter aircraft, numbered 2101, made its first appearance at Chengdu State Aircraft Factory No.132 Aircraft Plant. It may now perform its maiden flight in the next few weeks, local sources said.

New HD Video Shows PLAN Aircraft Carrier Operations Aboard Liaoning with Nine J-15 Aircraft

On December 25th, several official Chinese media (including CCTV 13 and CNTV) aired a TV report on the visit of the Commander of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) and the political commissar aboard China's aircraft carrier Liaoning (hull number 16). China Network Television (CNTV) then released some HD b-rolls that were filmed during the visit. It is the first time such high quality footage about the PLAN's carrier operations are released.
