The President of Ukraine has tested the new Dozor-B 4x4 APC armoured vehicle personnel carrier designed and manufactured in Ukraine. The new vehicle was demonstrated to the authorities of the presidential administration in the center of the capital.

India on Saturday, January 31, 2015, successfully test-launched Agni-5, its longest range ballistic missile, for the third time off the Odisha coast. The missile was launched from a canister from Wheeler Island, giving it higher road mobility. The three stage, solid propellant "missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher from the launch complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at about 8.06 hours," ITR Director M V K V Prasad said.

Rolls-Royce Corp., Indianapolis, Indiana, is being awarded an $87,712,436 contract for the procurement of 38 AE1107C engines in support of the MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft for the United States Marine Corps. Work will be performed in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is expected to be completed in December 2016. The US Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

Boeing will provide sustaining engineering support for the guidance system of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the U.S. Air Force, ensuring the safety, security and effectiveness of the nation’s land-based nuclear deterrent, under a recently-awarded $51 million contract, the US company said yesterday in an official statement.

Secretary of the US Air Force Deborah Lee James, in coordination with the US Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Frank Kendall, has determined the Boeing 747-8 will serve as the next presidential aircraft, commonly known as Air Force One, the US Air Force officially announced on January 28.

Two new Steregushchy class corvettes based on the original design, the Project 20380, will be laid down for the Russian Navy at the end of February in St. Petersburg, according to TASS quoting the representative of the Ministry of Defense Igor Dygalo. This comes as a surprise because all future corvettes for the Russian Navy were expected to be Project 20385 (Gremyashchy-class), an improved version of Project 20380. The reason may be European sanctions.

The US Defense Department will ask for $585 billion for the fiscal year 2016. The proposal would boost procurement spending by $14.1 billion to $107.7 billion and research and development funding by $6.3 billion to $69.8 billion, according to the draft documents. Officials from Boeing Co and the U.S. Army said on Wednesday they had begun discussions about a multiyear agreement to buy about 240 AH-64 Apache helicopters from fiscal 2017 to 2021, a deal that analysts say could be worth around $4 billion, reported Reuters on January 28.

The US Army's soldiers destined to operate the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system will now learn their trade from fellow Soldiers. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Instructional Facility, or THAAD, opened at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Already, four classes are underway at the schoolhouse, announced the US Army on January 23.

Colombia has announced the purchase of 32 new LAV III 8x8 armored combat vehicles to be deployed on the border with Venezuela. Military authorities have specified that the new tactical units will be used to combat illegal armed groups in the frontier zone, described by Spanish newspaper El País as “one of the seven hells on Earth.”

CAE and Bombardier yesterday, January 26, announced that they have signed an agreement for CAE's acquisition of Bombardier's Military Aviation Training business for approximately $16 million. Botswana’s Police Service today signed for a contract for three new AS350 B3e ‘Ecureuil” aircraft for its Police Air Support Branch, Airbus Helicopters announced on January 26. The new helicopters will be customised to the Botswana Police Service’s specification, including the installation of night vision equipment for night-time operations and other law enforcement equipment. The start of delivery of the new aircraft is scheduled for later in 2015.

The Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic has announced a tender for the supply of up to 62 mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles, said Petr Pavel, chief of staff of the armed forces of the Czech Republic. According to him, the equipment will be procured for the Czech army in two tranches, with the first half of 2015.

Exelis has received a U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center contract valued at $15.3 million to perform essential sustainment work on the ALQ-99 tactical jamming system. The ALQ-99 is used on the Navy’s EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft. The technology will also be provided to the Australian government through a Foreign Military Sales program, the first time the ALQ-99 has been made available to an international ally.

Defence and security company SAAB has selected a cutting-edge Kongsberg Maritime hydroacoustic package for installation on two Swedish A19 submarines. The delivery will consist of SA9510S Mine Avoidance and Navigation Sonar for submarines and the leading EM 2040 Dual RX multibeam echosounder.
The Israeli army recently revealed it is running a new drone unit in the Artillery Corps. The unit, the first of its kind, operates the tactical Hermes 450 drone from within the Ground Forces. During a recent drill in the North, the unit practiced working together with ground units by collecting advanced visual intelligence and broadcasting a live image of the battlefield to the divisions and brigades below.

The JF-17 Thunder, the indigenously-made multi-role and all weather fighter aircraft, was formally inducted in the prestigious Combat Commanders’ School (CCS) of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Monday, January 26. The induction of this indigenous fighter jet will further facilitate advanced combat training of PAF fighter pilots. Pakistan's Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Operations), Air Marshal Sohail Aman, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Bulgaria, a Nato member since 2004, still uses Soviet-made fighters which for several years it has been paying Russia’s RSK MiG to upgrade and maintain, reported Bulgarian newspaper The Sofia Globe.
