Ðuro Ðakovic signs contract for delivery to Croatia of AMV 8x8 armoured with Protector turret.

Thales Australia has delivered two Hawkei reconnaissance 4x4 armoured vehicle to Australian army

Thales Australia has delivered a further two Hawkei vehicles to the Defence Materiel Organisation on schedule. The handover of the two Reconnaissance variants under Stage 2 of the Manufactured and Supported in Australia option of Land 121 Phase 4 means that all six vehicles are now with the Department of Defence for testing. Thales awarded milestone Royal Navy services contract

Thales UK has today signed a 10-year contract with the Ministry of Defence (MOD), worth up to £600M, for the in-service support of the Royal Navy’s major sensor systems. The new Sensors Support Optimisation Project (SSOP) builds on the proven success of Thales’s Contractor Logistics Support contract, originally signed in 2003, which has provided support to the Royal Navy’s sonar and electronic warfare systems for the past 10 years.

Azerbaijan will soon start producing missiles together with Turkey’s ROKETSAN company. ROKETSAN told APA (Azerbaijan Press Agency) about it exclusively. Jordan asks the deployment of Patriot missile in its region bordering Syria to protect its territory

Jordan is mulling deployment of Patriot missiles in its region bordering Syria in order to protect its territory from the spiralling conflict which is spilling over into neighbouring countries. "Jordan wishes to deploy Patriot missile batteries in order to boost its defence capabilities and help protect the country. We are currently at the stage of talks with friendly states," Jordanian Information Minister Mohammad Momani said during a press conference.

The Sultanate of Oman and the United States of America are pleased to announce a deal for the acquisition of a U.S. manufactured ground based air defense system THAAD. The Persian Gulf sultanate of Oman is set to buy a $2.1 billion missile system built by the U.S. Raytheon Co. as part of a U.S. drive to install a coordinated air-defense system linking the region's Arab monarchies to counter Iran.

Several countries interested in buying ex-Spanish Navy Aircraft Carrier Principe de Asturias

According to rumors that emerged recently in the Spanish press, the Philippines as well as several Arab countries have expressed interest in purchasing the former Spanish Navy Aircraft Carrier Principe de Asturias. In case of a sale, the contract would include refit and upgrading of the vessel by Spanish shipyard Navantia.

The Turkish Company FNSS will produce medium tanks jointly with Indonesia.

Turkey and Indonesia agreed during the Turkish arms exhibition IDEF’13 this month to jointly develop medium tanks. Under the deal, Ankara-based, privately owned armored vehicles maker FNSS Defence Systems will work with Indonesia’s state-owned arms maker, PT Pindad.

Saudi Arabia has agreed to buy some of the new Turkish-made main battle tank Altay.

Saudi Arabia has agreed to buy some of the new Turkish Altay tanks. The exact number has not been revealed, but the Saudis do have 320 AMX-30 French tanks in urgent need of replacement. The Turkish Army is planning on buying a thousand of the new Altays for about $5.5 million each.

China wants to continue development of bilateral military ties with Ukraine

Visiting Chinese Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xu Qiliang on Thursday pledged strengthened ties and cooperation in various fields with Ukraine. Xu made the remarks while meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Xu said that the strategic partnership between China and Ukraine has been developing continuously thanks to the attention of the two countries' top leaders.

Russian army airborne troops ordered a new 125mm tracked self-propelled gun to Kurgan factory, which can be unloaded from a plane without any platform. Airborne troops of Russian army have indeed need a new vehicle to replace the 2S25 Sprut-SD that the "paras" have abandoned in 2010 after a fire on the vehicle after the military parade on Red Square, due to a fuel leakage. The Russian airborne troops will be equipped with a new vehicle able to fight the main battle tanks U.S. Abrams M1 and Israeli Merkava, wrote the newspaper Izvestia.

The Iranian Defense Ministry started mass-production of a highly mobile home-made air-defense system. The production line of the new system, Herz (Protector) 9, was inaugurated in a special ceremony attended by the country's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi on the occasion of the liberation of Khorramshahr city from Iraqi occupation during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war in the 1980s.

South Korean Company Doosan delivers Tarantula 6x6 armoured vehicles to Indonesia

South Korea's Doosan DST announced completion of production of the 6x6 armored combat vehicle Black Fox for the Indonesian Army. The 6X6 carries a crew of three, weighs 18 tons, has a maximum ground speed of about 95 km/h and a speed of nearly 8 km/h in water. Armaments include a 90mm gun and a 7.62mm machine gun.

US Navy Successfully Tests RIM-116 Block 2 Rolling Airframe Missile


The US Navy successfully completed tests of the Rolling Airframe Block 2 missile at the Navy's Pacific Missile Test Range, May 10. The missiles were launched from a Self Defense Test Ship operated by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme and intercepted turbojet-powered targets emulating enemy anti-ship cruise missiles.

Boeing unveils Phantom Badger Special Forces 4x4 tactical vehicle for V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft

The American Company Boeing unveils the Phantom Badger, a 4x4 light tactical vehicle, which is designed to be internally transported in the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. The Phantom Badger is Boeing's proposal for a tactical vehicle that can be contained within the V-22 Osprey with just six inches of room on each side.

German army to get more high-protection Fuchs/Fox1A8 6x6 armoured vehicle from Rheinmetall

Rheinmetall will modernize 25 more Fuchs/Fox armoured transport vehicles for the Bundeswehr, substantially enhancing their level of protection. The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) in Koblenz recently awarded the contract, which is worth €36 million.

Update on the SAM System KUB CZ (2K12 KUB) modernization program by RETIA and MBDA

During IDET 2013, Army Recognition editorial team gathered new information on the 2K12 KUB Surface to Air Missile System modernization program. The joint RETIA - MBDA project was unveiled two years ago during the previous edition of IDET. The final version of the first modified unit (launcher + radar) was delivered one year ago for evaluation by the Czech Army.

Turkish Company Katmerciler wants to sell its 4x4 armoured vehicle Pit-Bull VX to Azerbaijan

Armored patrol vehicle Pit-Bull VX, newly produced by Turkish Katmerciler company, will be presented in Azerbaijan, company representative Ramazan Dincer told APA (Azerbaijan Press Agency). The Turkish company would like to propose the vehicle for the border guards of Azerbaijan.

Bearcat 4x4 armoured vehicle of Saskatoon Police in Canada has proven its worth

The Saskatoon Police Service’s Emergency Response Team’s of Canada armoured rescue vehicle, the Bearcat, seems to have proven its worth during its first year of service. According to the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS), the Bearcat has been utilized 25 times since it was acquired by the force in March of 2012, seeing a total of 16 calls in 2012 and another nine in 2013.

North Korea has launched another short-range missile KN-02 after the three from this Saturday

South Korean officials condemned the launching of another short-range missile Sunday, May 19, 2013 by North Korea, saying the action was provocative. North Korea fired the missile Sunday afternoon into the ocean off the country's east coast, one day after the country fired three short-range missiles into the same body of water, Yonhap News Agency reported.

USNS Montford Point mobile landing platform ship (MLP 1) delivered to U.S. Navy

The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of the first Mobile Landing Platform, USNS Montford Point (MLP 1), from General Dynamics-NASSCO on May 14, in San Diego, Calif. The Mobile Landing Platform is a new class of ship and highly flexible platform that will provide capability for large-scale logistics movements such as the transfer of light and heavy vehicles and equipment from sea to shore.
