UN Observers powerless against the attacks of the Syrian government armed forces

Lebanon is now affected by the conflict in Syria with violent clashes near the border

Earlier in the day Lebanese soldiers had shot dead the men as they sped through a road block in the northern region of Akkar. The two were members of a Lebanon-based anti-Assad political alliance. Protests erupted late Sunday, may 20, 2012, night in Beirut as Sunni Muslims reacted angrily to the killing of two anti-Syrian regime group members.

British army troops could stay in Afghanistan beyond the 2014 NATO withdrawal deadline

Plans for a compete Western pullout from Afghanistan seem to be drifting with Britain saying a small number of its soldiers may remain in the country beyond the 2014 NATO withdrawal deadline. Visiting French President Francois Hollande said at the White House on Friday, May 18, 2012, that he stood by the pledge to withdraw French forces from Afghanistan by the end of 2012. "I recalled to President Obama that I had made a promise to withdraw our combat troops from Afghanistan at the end of 2012," Hollande said after meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama.

United States DSCA notified possible sale of MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to South Korea

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the Republic of Korea for eight MH-60R SEAHAWK Multi-Mission Helicopters, associated parts, equipment, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $1.0 billion.

Russian Navy Future Large amphibious assault ship Project 11711 "Ivan Gren" launched in the water

May 18, 2012 at JSC "Baltic Shipyard Yantar" in Kaliningrad, a new large landing ship for the Russian Navy was floated out following an official ceremony. Project 11711 large landing ship of the new generation was designed in the late eighties and nineties. Russian Ministry of Defense April 1, 2004 issued the contract to build Project 11711. The ship's completion is expected by 2013. Plans to build three more ships of the same class are under consideration.

New Boxer armoured vehicle with LANCE turret presented to customers in Unterlüß for first time
